When properly performed, water jetting, with or without
chemical enhancement, can be an effective method of surface preparation for a
variety of substrates prior to coating as well as a method of removing
accumulated deposits from surfaces that are intended to be left “bare.” However, improperly performed water jetting
and chemical cleaning can cause serious damage to buildings.
SURMAC has extensive experience in water jetting and
chemical cleaning. SURMAC designs and
implements protocols for removing accumulated deposits or removing adhered
coatings and performing surface preparation on masonry, concrete, and metal
substrates, without damage to the substrate.
If the use of chemicals to enhance cleaning action is required,
SURMAC uses safe restoration products appropriate for the particular substrate
involved.
With water jetting machinery
that can produce pressures ranging from 5,000 PSI up to 55,000 PSI, SURMAC can
handle virtually any water jetting job. SURMAC also designs and
fabricates dedicated, special-purpose water jetting equipment.

More than 30 years ago SURMAC company founder and president Rick Watson was called upon to perform water jetting at one of San Antonio's historic landmarks, Mission San Jose. Dating from 1720, the Mission is famous for an intricately carved feature known as the Rose Window, whose limestone had grown black with centuries of accumulated deposits. Rick was able to clean the limestone, using only water under high pressure, without damaging this treasure.
